Case of Kidney Cancer

Nike (Name Anonymous) a 4 year old female child came in with abdominal swelling. The swelling had been noticed by the mother while giving her a bath. She was taken to private hospitals. At the suggestion of tumor, her parents were advised to take her to the village as there may be a spiritual angle to it.

When  Nike’s case got worse and her abdomen continued to increase in size, she was brought back to Lagos, and to LUTH Nephroblastoma  (a kidney cancer ) was the diagnosis after series of investigation  she took some chemotherapy, had surgery and continued with the chemotherapy.

While on chemotherapy, a chest X ray revealed metastasis to the lungs. The parents were so devastated they refused to continue with the chemotherapy. Nike died almost a month later.
